What does oak wilt treatment cost?
These are typical published ranges, not quotes. They come from the Oakwilt.org Texas cost guide, written by a tree care company about the Dallas–Fort Worth area. Hill Country prices may differ. Only an arborist who sees your trees can price the job.
Most Texas homeowners spend roughly $250 to $1,500 per tree. The biggest factor is trunk diameter (DBH), because that sets how much fungicide the tree needs.
| Tree size (DBH) | Typical range per tree |
|---|---|
| Small, 6–12″ | $250–$450 |
| Medium, 12–20″ | $450–$800 |
| Large, 20–30″ | $800–$1,200 |
| Heritage, 30″+ | $1,200–$1,500+ |
What moves the price
- Number of trees. Oak wilt spreads through roots, so arborists often recommend treating nearby healthy oaks too. Multi-tree jobs cost more overall but may get per-tree discounts.
- Preventive vs. therapeutic. The same guide says treating an infected tree usually takes more product and may need repeating, while preventive treatment uses less.
- Trenching or removal. Root barriers or removing infected red oaks are separate costs.
Be wary of shortcuts
The guide warns against "root drench" products and untrained injection with hand-pump kits. Ask any arborist what method and fungicide they use and whether they're Oak Wilt Qualified.
Programs that can offset part of the cost
Inside Boerne city limits, the City may reimburse $5 per inch of trunk diameter for qualifying injection (about $100 on a 20-inch tree), up to $1,500 per property per year, subject to funding. It offsets part of a typical bill, not the whole job. See Boerne rebate details. Outside Boerne, Texas A&M Forest Service runs a cost-share for trenching and red oak removal (see FAQ).
